In waste management, asset loss can represent a significant expense for companies. Sersall, with over 25 years of experience in comprehensive waste management, faced a recurring problem: the loss of containers. With more than 300 units in circulation, manual control using Excel sheets was not sufficient, leading to container losses, each with an approximate value of 6,000 euros.

The challenge: complex management of the fleet and assets
With a fleet of 75 vehicles of various sizes and capacities, including trailers and tractors, Sersall covers an extensive area in Catalonia. One of their biggest challenges was the control of working time and the correct execution of routes.

“We needed to ensure that drivers were performing their tasks correctly and that each container was picked up at the right time and place. Previously, if a street was closed or there was an unforeseen event, it was difficult to track details accurately”, explains Roger Garriga.
Additionally, the lack of an efficient tracking system led to the loss of containers, resulting in significant costs for the company.
The solution: Mapon and the use of BLE tags
Sersall began using Mapon in 2019, initially just for GPS tracking. After experiencing the platform’s clarity and ease of use, the company soon added more features. One of the most significant changes came with the implementation of BLE tags - small beacons that allow real-time tracking of container locations.

“Previously, finding a container was a manual task that could take hours. Now, with Mapon and BLEs, we locate any unit in seconds,” comments Silvia Costa.
Currently, 175 containers already have this technology, and the number continues to grow as they recover units previously considered lost. The integration with Mapon has allowed them not only to save time and reduce losses but also to improve the allocation of vehicles to different types of containers, ensuring that each truck can pick up the appropriate units.
Mapon allows you to create a virtual device and assign a BLE ID to associate it with a container. It is as simple as accessing the Asset Management section -> Add new unit -> Add unit and filling in the necessary fields with the corresponding information. This facilitates the identification, management, and recovery of assets in real-time, further optimizing operations.
“We have saved many hours of work because we no longer have to go through the depots to find the exact container. With the measurement information recorded in Mapon, the operators immediately know which unit is the right one without needing to verify it manually.”
Beyond tracking: total fleet optimization
The impact of Mapon on Sersall is not limited to container tracking and management. They have also implemented key solutions for fleet optimization, including:
- Remote tachograph download, which allows them to comply with regulations without having to do it manually every week.
- Monitoring of driver behavior, which has enabled them to reduce harsh accelerations, braking, and improve road safety. They plan to establish an incentive system within the company to reward drivers for efficient driving.
- Use of Mapon mobile apps, which allow fleet managers and operators to access vehicle and asset information at any time. Thanks to its intuitive and easy-to-use interface, the app facilitates real-time tracking and immediate decision-making, optimizing the company's daily management.
"Every week, our vehicles are involved in some kind of incident or claim. In 2024, we had 52 reports, which means one incident per week. Thanks to Mapon, we can now accurately demonstrate where our truck was and defend ourselves against false accusations,” adds Roger Garriga.
